An amazing article about the Flux Capacitor i found over the net...

Why The Flux Capacitor Won’t Work

Now that we’ve entered the new millennium, one can’t help but ponder the possibility of
time travel—a concept that has fascinated brilliant minds for decades. One such mind belongs to Dr. Emmet Brown of Hill Valley. Dr. Brown considers himself the world’s leading authority on time travel, however, many noted scientists dispute his claim. Dr. Brown is the inventor of the “Flux Capacitor,” which he envisioned one day after falling off of the toilet. The Flux Capacitor, he claims, enables time travel. The only problem is—it won’t work!

Dr. Brown is mostly recognized for his invention of an automatic dog-food dispensing system. The device, ingenious by design, was never marketed due to an injunction brought forth by another inventor claiming he’d invented it. And now Dr. Brown offers the Flux Capacitor, the central element necessary for time travel. Unfortunately, this concept is as wild as the good doctor’s hair! The Flux Capacitor design is simple, the three induction ports of the capacitor absorb the
three-dimensional surroundings of the time machine, in this case, a used 1983 DeLorean. The Flux Capacitor continually alters the environment until the desired configuration of date and time is achieved. Simple, right! Well, it’s not! As for the DeLorean, he should’ve chosen something a bit roomier and comfortable. Why travel through time in a two-seater?

When considering Dr. Brown’s theory the key question one needs to ask is “What happens to the now?" "What happens to the present?" This is the flaw with Brown’s design, and why the Flux Capacitor won’t work!
The three induction ports of the Flux Capacitor encompass only three dimensions. It's universally believed that a fourth dimension is necessary to accomplish traveling through time.
This parallel dimension will enable the present to continue undisturbed as the vehicle travels through time. To date, this all elusive fourth dimension exists only in the Twilight Zone and a few Robert Zemeckis films. However, it is rumored that the Imagineers at Walt Disney Imagineering have had some success in this field. These rumors cannot be substantiated. Perhaps one day time travel will be accomplished on an “E” ticket attraction at a theme park. One thing is certain, any such attraction will not be dependent upon a Flux Capacitor.

Another serious flaw with Brown’s design is the use of Plutonium to produce the 1.21 jig-a-watts of power needed to activate the capacitor. This device, in it’s present state, will not be able to withstand combustion of this magnitude. Activating it will actually propel the DeLorean forward—in a million radioactive pieces! Dr. Brown must be stopped from ever testing this device. Please write to Congress and ask them to pass a law that prevents Dr. Brown from ever testing the Flux Capacitor. The world will be a safer place if they do.
